The award-winning Performing Arts Program of Saint Joseph Regional High School, performed the Northeast Regional Premier of Ordinary People in April 2016 in the Inserra Theater.
The best-selling book by Judith Guest, which was later made into the movie that won the Academy Award for Best Picture, will be performed by boys from St. Joe’s and girls from various high schools throughout Bergen County. Ordinary People is a 1980 American drama that concerns the disintegration of an upper-middle class family in Lake Forest, Illinois, following the death of one of their sons in a boating accident. The story deals with family conflict, survivor guilt, suicide and the healing power of therapy. Many have attributed the acceptance of family therapy by mainstream Americans to the popularity of this movie.
The 50th Anniversary Celebrations concluded Saturday, October 27th with a Gala dinner at the Pearl River Hilton.
The evening marked the end of events, which began with a school picnic in September of 2011 and included an athletic evening (October 2011) in which the top-50 moments in SJR sports history were recognized, an Alumni Father-Son Mass (January 2012) and a Golden Jubilee Mass (March 2012).
