An Unprecedented Graduation

The sun shone brightly on the Class of 2020 as patience was rewarded.

On the morning of July 18, roughly six weeks after graduation was originally scheduled, the Class of 2020 walked across the stage at Dinallo Stadium to formally cross into the ranks of Green Knights alumni.

While the program was similar to past year, the look of the event was unique due to social distancing limitations. For starters, each student was only able to bring two guests so the ceremony was streamed live on Facebook and YouTube for additionally family to enjoy.

It also marked the first time since 1977 that graduation was held outside. On the field, sets of three chairs per household were separated by six feet in each row.

In the end, the celebration went on. Student Council President Ralph Ignacio (Fairfield) led an opening prayer before Marc Rivera (Syracuse) performed the Star Spangled Banner.

Valedictorian Ryan Collins (Notre Dame) and salutatorian Angelo Pelosi (Widener) provided speeches while Fr. Jonathan Morse '70 delivered the commencement address.
