Saint Joseph Regional High School will induct its inaugural class into the Green Knights Athletic Hall of Fame on May 4, 2019.
The induction ceremony will recognize outstanding contributions to the SJR athletic program in four basic categories: players, coaches, teams and contributors.
“Saint Joseph Regional High School has an exceptionally rich athletic tradition,” said President Barry Donnelly '71. “The Athletic Hall of Fame will showcase that success and recognize those who forged the path over the past fifty-seven years.”
The selection of the first class of honorees will be made by a committee that will include members of both the Athletic Department and Advancement/Alumni Office.
“We are currently soliciting nominations from our school community which will identify a group of potential honorees in each category,” said Athletic Director Damion Logan '96. “From that group, we will be looking to induct a class of 7-8 honorees this year.”
Nominees will be accepted for the following categories: Outstanding Athlete, Outstanding Coach, Outstanding Team and a fourth category for Outstanding Contributor. The latter category is intended to include anyone who has made a significant contribution to the SJR athletic program, but is not a player or coach. The category could include past athletic directors, booster club leaders, play-by-play announcers, team managers, even referees – almost any area of athletic contribution not included in the other categories.
All alumni nominees must be a graduate of at least 10 years.
This inaugural Green Knights Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony, which will take place in the Inserra Theater, will be modeled on the ESPY Awards. A cocktail reception will precede the induction ceremonies.
