Richard Messina » Bio:

Richard Messina has been an English teacher for quite a few years, and his experience is certainly vast.  He has taught in both public and private schools at every high school level, from 9th to 12th grade; in addition, he has taught advanced classes, college prep classes, electives, remedial classes, after school programs, night school, summer school, and adult classes in Americanization. He has created elective courses for students to explore particular aspects of literature and writing.
Mr. Messina is a graduate from Montclair State University with a BA in English Education and an MA+45 from Kean University in Administration/Education.
Teaching Philosophy:
I believe that if the teacher has a strong interest in the subject matter, his enthusiasm becomes contagious causing each student to be interested and work to his utmost; this interest will carry beyond the walls of the school and enhance the student's ability in all aspects of life.  I also believe in the importance of students helping students and learning from each other.  This too goes beyond the walls of the school so students see life from a mature Catholic perspective and realize the joy of learning and helping others.
Fun Facts:
I have been a professional drummer for many years.  I have played in jazz, rock, and Latin bands and have taught drums to serious students.
I love all sports, especially basketball.
I can cook, as long as I can boil water.
Working at SJR:
SJR is a great place to work because the students, faculty, and staff are very kind, helpful people.  They really care about each other and want each other to succeed.
