The award-winning Performing Arts Program of Saint Joseph Regional High School, performed the Northeast Regional Premier of Ordinary People in April 2016 in the Inserra Theater. The best-selling book by Judith Guest, which was later made into the movie that won the Academy Award for Best Picture, will be performed by boys from St. Joe’s and girls from various high schools throughout Bergen County. Ordinary People is a 1980 American drama that concerns the disintegration of an upper-middle class family in Lake Forest, Illinois, following the death of one of their sons in a boating accident. The story deals with family conflict, survivor guilt, suicide and the healing power of therapy. Many have attributed the acceptance of family therapy by mainstream Americans to the popularity of this movie.
