About Me

Bio:  Michael J. Doherty ‘82

I am a 1982 graduate of St. Joseph Regional High School.  I received my BA in English from Muhlenberg College (PA) in 1982, and returned to SJR teach English, beginning with the 1986-87 academic year.  I earned my Master of Science in Education (School Administration and Supervision) from Iona College (NY) in 1992.  In addition, I hold teaching certifications in both New Jersey (Elementary Education; English 7 – 12) and Pennsylvania (English 7 – 12).

Currently a part of SJR's Guidance Department, during the course of my 34 year tenure at SJR, I have taught English and Theology and served as Vice Principal for Academics and Vice Principal for Discipline.  From 1994 to 2020, I served as SJR’s Director of Admissions. I currently work in SJR's Guidance Department and continue to teach two English classes.

Since 1989 I have also served as the Varsity Basketball Coach at SJR.

Hometown:  I grew up in Northvale, NJ, and have been a resident of West Milford, NJ since 1996.

Fun Fact:  My sons, Matthew (2011) and Patrick (2015), are both graduates of SJR, and my youngest son, Timothy, is a current Green Knight, part of the Saint Joseph Regional Class of 2023.

What I love about SJR:  Since the first time I entered the hallways of Saint Joe’s in the late 1970’s as a middle school student researching high schools, I knew SJR was special.  That feeling has not changed in the 34 years I have been back working at the school.  Our students, parents, alumni, faculty and staff truly embody the ideals of the Vir Fidelis, and that is something I always want to be a part of my life.
