Green Knights Win FDU Invitational

It may have taken a week but the Green Knights golf team stepped back into the winner's circle on Wednesday.

The defending state champions took home their first 18-hole tournament of the season, with a resounding victory at the FDU Invitational. SJR tallied at 1-over par score of 289 to win the annual event by 16 strokes at River Vale GC.

Sophomore Rory Asselta notched his first individual title of the season, firing a 3-under par 69. Asselta defended his FDU title from a year ago by tallying 4 birdies and 1 bogey, needing a par on his final hole to secure a 1-stroke victory over NV Demarest's Jake Aronson. The win marks the 8th high school tournament victory for Asselta.

SJR junior co-captain CJ Antifonario finished T-3 with a even par 72, while senior co-captain Michael Asselta finished T-5 with a 1-over par 73.

All 6 Green Knights finished inside the top-20 on the leaderboard. Sophomore Justin Peck finished T-11 (75) and junior John Fenton and freshman Patrick Ryan (IND) both finished T-18 with a 77.

The Green Knights are back at it on Thursday with a match against DePaul Catholic. The team's next 18-hole tournament will be April 15h when they host the Green Knights Invitational at The Tuxedo Club.
