Estime Leads SJR to Dominating Win over Don Bosco Prep

The mindset was simple heading into one of their biggest games of the season.

“Take the game one play at a time, don’t get too caught up in the moment," said SJR senior Jack Centrelli.

"Do whatever it takes to come out on top.”

And that's exactly what the Green Knights did on Friday night.

Coach Marangi and the Green Knights faced off against his former team, Don Bosco Prep, in their annual rivalry game at Charles Granatell Stadium. The Ironmen struck first with a 60 yard rushing touchdown by sophomore running back Ronnie Heath. The Green Knights quickly answered back with a touchdown of their own as Audric Estime ‘21 took an 80 yard rush to the house to even things up in the first quarter. Estime would continue to find the holes in the Don Bosco defense as he would rush for his second touchdown of the night, a 40 yard carry to stretch the Green Knights lead to 14-7.

The game was 17-7 at the half, but Don Bosco came out hot in the 3rd quarter as Sophomore Nick Minicucci rushed for a short touchdown to narrow the Green Knights lead to 17-14. But once again Estime and the Green Knights responded with a quick offensive drive which produced the running back's third touchdown of the night. The senior phenom totaled 309 yards on 27 carries as he is currently the leading rusher in the state of New Jersey.

The dominant St. Joe's defense stepped up in the second half, forcing two turnovers late in the game to seal the win for the Green Knights and Coach Marangi who received a Gatorade shower from his players after his first meeting against his former team. St. Joe's continues their hot streak, improving their record to 4-2 on the season.
