This Week in SJR Hockey

Seton Hall Prep Pt. 1-The Green Knights commenced the week with a tough loss against #14 Seton Hall Prep in West Orange on Tuesday, January 3. A rough start in the beginning of the game prevented the Green Knights from making a comeback, as SJR fell 7-2. Freshman Kyle Kondratowicz and sophomore Logan Hughes were the two scorers for the Green Knights. 


Paramus Catholic - SJR quickly bounced back on Thursday against the Paladins of Paramus Catholic with a score of 5-0. Junior Luke Heimberg put in two goals alongside three other goal scorers: Kyle Kondratowicz ‘26, Michael Chang ‘23, and Chiarello ‘25. Six other Green Knights joined them in the scoring column with assists from Shane Tobin ‘25, Logan Hughes ‘25, Ryan Beanland ‘25 (2), Landon Albano ‘25, Hunter Beanland ‘25, and Carmine Coiro ‘24. 

Another major storyline from this tremendous game was the first career start for freshman Gabe Florio in net.  It was also his first career shutout; he ended with 22 saves. 


Seton Hall Prep Pt. 2 - Following a rough start to the series, the Green Knights responded well against the Pirates of Seton Hall Prep on Sunday. After conceding a goal within the first minute of the game, the Knights scored two goals and they held a lead going into the third period. The game would end in a 2-2 tie, but the Green Knights showed tremendous improvement. Captain Michael Chang ‘23 and Andrew Chiarello ‘25 were the two goal scorers, and Assistant Captain Joseph Monte ‘23 had 25 saves.


Player Spotlight: This week’s spotlight is on senior goaltender - Joseph Monte. Following his nomination as Defensive Player of the Week by Nj.com, coach Larry Mahurter ‘87 awarded Monte with the designation of Assistant Captain. He will serve alongside Captain Michael Chang ‘23 and Assistant Captain Frank Perrone ‘24.
