Student of the Week: Michael Dellagatta '23

For Student of the Week Michael Dellagatta '23, it's all about the relationships.

"Whatever I do at SJR, I know my guys are there to support me, my teachers, the staff, the administration, they're there for me," explained the Old Tappan native.

The #1 ranked wrestler in the state (190lb), Dellagatta's 10-0 victory against Delbarton sealed the win and gave SJR its first state title since 1998!

A hard worker with confidence and a wry smile, the co-captain is 20-1 on the mat with 11 pins. According to Mr. Stoto, he brings that same tenacity to the classroom.

He earned a 93 GPA in the second marking period, improving since the fall, while co-captaining the Green Knights to a state championship.

"Michael is willing to put in the work," said Stoto. "He is taking a challenge AP Psychology class and works hard to earn his grade."

That determination on the mat and in class have Dellagatta bound for Cornell University in the fall. He'll wrestle for the Big Red (ranked 8th in the NCAA) and remains undeclared on his major.

In his free time, Dellagatta like to draw ("but I'm not very good at it") and to play basketball. He suggests that he is the "best non-basketball player in the school."

Nominated by Mr. Stoto.
