On Wednesday, March 29, the Donnelly Scholars, an elite academic program at Saint Joseph Regional High School, were given the opportunity to watch a play in the Broadway district of New York City. The Play that Goes Wrong, has been given outstanding reviews and has gotten much recognition for its numerous comical components. The Donnelly Scholars left SJR at 4:45 in the afternoon and were provided with dinner, which included a sandwich, two bags of chips, a soda, and a chocolate chip cookie, while on the bus heading for the city. The students arrived early and had a chance to visit Central Park near Columbus Circle before the beginning of the performance.

Mr. Barry Donnelly ’71, Ms. Hillary Barnett, Mrs. Agatha Buron, and Mrs. Mary Kay Buckley chaperoned the after school trip. In addition to the Donnelly Scholars, performing arts students, senior Thomas Snyder and freshman Joseph Lizzi also had the opportunity to see The Play that Goes Wrong. This was the second Donnelly Scholars field trip during this school year; the first was to the New Jersey State House in October where students met SJR alumni and congressman Jay Webber. The show was around two hours long, including intermission, during which the actors broke the fourth wall and the entire set. To summarize the performance, it was a catastrophe made hilarious beyond measure with family-friendly commentary.

After the play, students and faculty got back on the bus raving about the performance, and some even got pictures with the cast members before leaving the theater.

Pictures from the trip are on the SJR Instagram page, so feel free to stop by!
