  3. In Person or Virtual College Nights -- Attend one of the area’s “Virtual College Nights” with your parents and obtain up-to-date information and materials.
    1. The Bergen County College Fair is generally scheduled for September at Fairleigh Dickinson University (Rothman Center).   More information will be provided through Naviance emails closer to the time.  Also, NACAC will host some “virtual” NACAC College Fairs at:  www.nacacfairs.org/virtual

  4. Refine your list of schools by using one of the college selection programs such as: Naviance, Collegeview.com, Petersons.com, Embark.com, Collegenet.com, USnews.com.

September – Visit college websites in which you are interested and view applications for admission and financial aid (if needed). Some colleges require the Financial Aid Form/CSS PROFILE.  Both these forms can be filled out online, as well.  All colleges require the FAFSA if you are applying for financial aid.  The only way to apply is online using FAFSA on the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  The CSS Profile is at www.collegeboard.com at “pay for college”.

You will have to submit at least one essay with each college application.  Start working on your application essay, if you haven’t already done so.

Decide which teachers you want to ask for recommendations and ask them now.  Give the teachers plenty of time; some are inundated with requests.  Most colleges do require letters of recommendation from teachers and all require one from your counselor. Teachers will submit recommendation forms electronically.  Teachers will fill out online forms through Naviance after you have made the initial request in person and then electronically through Naviance.  Counselors will also complete and submit recommendations through Naviance.
